Thanksgiving Meal and Coat Drive for Refugees in Silver Spring

IRC in Silver Spring with its partners at the Suburban Washington Resettlement Center (SWRC) hosted a Thanksgiving feast and Holiday Coat Drive event on November 14, 2013. Refugees and asylees recently resettled at the SWRC from places like Burma, Congo, Iraq, Afghanistan, and Somalia came together to give thanks and to celebrate with IRC staff, community partners and volunteers.

The event and coat drive was a great example of the community coming together to embrace our newest members. Planet Aid, among other community supporters spent months leading up to the event gathering winter coats and other donations. Because of these efforts, every attendee received a coat, scarf, hat, gloves, and clothing to help them make it through their first winter in Suburban Washington. Read the full story here.
