Planet Aid Grant Helps Revive an Annual Cultural Travel Program for Norris Square Neighborhood Project

Written by Planet Aid | Jan 30, 2026

The Norris Neighborhood Project (NSNP) recently celebrated the renewal of a cherished tradition: the annual youth field trip to Puerto Rico. This revitalization was made possible through the support of Planet Aid's Capacity and Environmental (PACE) Grant, which played a crucial role in bringing this initiative back to life in 2024 and 2025.

The Return of a Beloved Tradition

For years, the annual trip to Puerto Rico was a highlight for the youth involved with NSNP, offering them a unique opportunity for cultural immersion and personal growth. Unfortunately, due to financial constraints and staffing challenges, NSNP had to put this beloved tradition on hold.  However, the $25,000  contribution from the PACE Grant helped revive the annual tradition,  providing this culturally enriching travel experience for NSNP's youth groups in 2024 and, most recently, in 2025.

A Trip to Remember

In June 2025, the NSNP youth embarked on an unforgettable journey to the vibrant island of Puerto Rico. The trip offered a plethora of activities designed to educate and inspire. Participants explored the rich history of Old San Juan, marveled at the natural beauty of El Yunque National Forest, and learned about the island's unique ecosystems. The experience was not only educational but also fostered a sense of community and connection among the participants.

The contribution from Planet Aid's PACE Grant was pivotal in making this trip a reality. It supported essential aspects of the journey, including travel arrangements, accommodation, and educational materials. This support allowed NSNP to focus on creating a transformative experience for the youth, empowering them with new perspectives and lifelong memories.

The success of the 2024 and 2025 trips has reignited NSNP's commitment to maintaining this tradition. The organization aims to continue to ensure future generations can benefit from this enriching experience.
