How to Get a Tax Receipt for Your Clothing Donation - Planet Aid, Inc.

Written by Planet Aid, Inc. | Jul 31, 2015

The new school year is right around the corner, which means shoppers throughout the country are looking for deals on back-to-school supplies and clothes. One easy way to save is by taking advantage of sales tax holidays in August, but did you know that you can also get a tax break for donating your textiles any time of year?

After you've dropped off a bag of clothes, shoes, or household textiles in one of our yellow Planet Aid bins, makes sure to go to our website to easily get a receipt by filling out our simple form.

When determining the value of your donation, keep in mind that the IRS only allows a deduction for items that are still in reasonably good condition. If you have clothes or shoes that are no longer wearable, Planet Aid will still accept them so that they can be repurposed and spared from the landfill, but you won't be able to receive a tax deduction for those specific items.

Have a bulk donation that may be valued at over $500? Click here to contact us for more information on how we can help.

Below are some of the more common textiles that are donated and their fair market value. For a longer list of tax-deductible items and their worth, click here.
