Planet Aid Donation Center Collects More Than 19,000 Pounds in First Week

The newly opened Planet Aid Donation Center on 533 Broadway in Newport, Rhode Island collected more than 19,000 pounds of donations during its first week. Here is the breakdown:

The facility provides 24/7 drop-off service for Aquidneck Island as well as the surrounding communities of Bristol, Jamestown, Narragansett, North Kingstown, and Tiverton. The site occupies a former filling station property and is staffed during regular business hours. It aims to make it more convenient for the community to keep textiles, books, and other household items out of the trash. Collected materials are repurposed or resold, with proceeds being used to fund development projects in Africa, Asia, and South America

Rhode Island Resource Recovery is committed to helping Rhode Islander's reduce, reuse, and recycle. The new Planet Aid donation center in Newport, Rhode Island provides a convenient option for residents who would rather see their old textiles reused or recycled than see them buried in the landfill forever. Using the new center is one small way local residents can make a big difference.
