Skirball Exhibit Hosts Nicholas Kristof

Last November, the Skirball Cultural Center in Los Angeles, California launched the interactive exhibition: “A Path Appears: Actions For A Better World."  The exhibit was inspired by the book of the same name written by New York Times columnist Nicolas D. Kristof. Recently, Mr. Kristof spoke at the exhibit during an evening celebration held in his honor.

Planet Aid is featured in the gallery area that describes a number of innovative educational projects around the globe serving populations ranging from runaways to young children in developing countries. A large display features Upile, a teacher in rural Malawi who completed her training at a Planet Aid-sponsored college. The exhibit's accompanying text explains both Upile's personal mission and the satisfaction she finds in helping girls in this poor area of her home country advance their education.

The installation, which Skirball Executive Director Robert Kirshner described as, “a fulfillment of our highest ideals” as an organization, is structured so that visitor are engaged as they move through different areas focused around four different critical humanitarian issues: education, health, jobs and empowerment. At each station visitors are asked to interact with technology and media showcasing a particular aspect of these issues.

“A Path Appears”  is open Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays. The exhibit is now in its final weeks and will close on February 21. Check the webpage for more details.
