The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has posted case studies and other information on its website that shows how recycling helps strengthen communities. For example, the EPA cites "The Economic Impact of the Recycling Industry in South Carolina" published in 2006, which demonstrated that for every 1,000 tons of material recycled an additional 1.68 additional jobs were created in the state. In addition, for every 1,000 tons recycled, $3,687 in additional tax revenues were generated.
